Happy Monday! I am feeling the weight of the second semester as I am sure that many of you are. It is so important during this tough stretch of the school year that we find things to celebrate and tiny moments to breathe. I loved getting to talk with several of you on Friday. Some of these conversations were about how nice it was to feel like a school again as we marched through the courtyard in our costumes. Others stopped by to share great news about a student that had grown academically on the most recent STAR test. Others were excited just to share what their weekend plans were that were going to allow them to rest and be ready to tackle another busy week. Check in on a friend this week, help them to take a moment to breathe, and let them share something positive that is going on in their world right now.
Custodial Crew Leader
This week we welcome a new staff member. Please find a moment this week to introduce yourself to our new Custodial Crew Leader, Stephen Pappas. He starts on Monday and will be on campus for the day shift from 6:00 am-2:30 pm. As you make requests for help in your rooms, be sure to have a little patience as he will be getting used to our campus layout, our materials/supplies, and all of our names. We are excited to have him join our Cub family!
Celebrate Literacy Week
Last week was so much fun! Our Cubs enjoyed getting to engage in reading activities and to dress up for the parade. A big thank you to our Literacy Team that worked hard to plan these activities. If you were able to capture any photos from the parade please add them to the google folder for Jackie and Alicen.
Employees of the Year
We wanted to congratulate, one more time, Mrs. Adler and Mrs. Skavroneck. Both of these staff members truly represent what it means to love kids! They both put their full heart into making DCE a better place and to make students love learning and reading each and every day. We are very thankful that they were able to represent our school as our Teacher and Support Employee of the Year! Congratulations to Kathleen for finding out last week that she has been named the CCPS Support Employee of the Year!APM Testing
Monday is our APM (Adaptive Progress Monitoring) Assessment for mathematics for students in grades 3-5. This assessment is very similar to the FSA. We will be testing the majority of the morning from approximately 8:30am-11:00 am in all classrooms and planning rooms for these grade levels. A few students that receive accommodations may be continuing to test in the afternoons as well. Please avoid these areas as much as possible with your classes on Monday so that students can have optimal testing conditions. The results of this assessment will indicate how on track our students are in preparation of our upcoming FSA test and where gap areas are that can be filled in the next few months. We can't wait to get this data and see how much our students have grown since the first APM in October. Wish our 3-5 students and teachers good luck if you see them in the morning!
This Week's Schedule
Have a great week!
-Keli and James
