Happy Spring!

Dear Deep Creek Family,

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. Regardless of your faith, I hope you are able to enjoy the renewal and rebirth that spring brings.  The three day week was a nice transition to help everyone get back in learning mode after spring break. Now our 3rd and 4th grade students will show what they know on the FSA. If you have the t-shirt from last year, don't forget to wear it this week.

There are many personnel issues I need to address. We wish Dave Lada a speedy recovery and we appreciate your patience as we operate short handed. Our Media Specialist position is posted and we will be interviewing during the first week in April. There will be a committee of 5-6 people to make the best decision for our students and school.  We will need to finalize all evaluations this week so thank you for being flexible with your appointments so we can get everyone squared away in the allotted time. Attached is the form for you to complete indicating your preference regarding your VAM. Please bring it completed to your appointment.

Friday begins our annual tradition of the Big Bucket Book Bash. Remember this event is about celebrating and rewarding our students accomplishments. Last year was so much fun! I can't wait to see what is planned for this year. It is great for our students to see their teachers celebrating with them and I know this means sometimes getting out of our comfort zone. I am happy it coincides with staff appreciation week again this year and we can celebrate with lunch together afterwards.

Thanks for all you do,
Adrienne

Home Stretch

Dear Deep Creek Family,

I hope you all were able to enjoy a much deserved Spring Break. I know it is hard to get back in "the groove" after time off, but we are definitely heading into the final home stretch of the year. It is also nice that we have a Teacher Work Day and a short week to get organized for testing and prepare to finish the year strong.

While you are finishing your grades on Monday, please also remember to prepare your instructional materials for textbook inventory on Tuesday and Wednesday. Also on Tuesday, we will meeting with all staff involved with testing and sending out all necessary information affecting the school in regards to testing. The meeting for test administrators and proctors is Tuesday morning at 7:35am in the library.

In closing, I had a friend share a quick story about Thomas Edison with me over our break. Thomas Edison struggled in school and was asked to leave his school. The story went that his mother received a note stating that he was dumb and incapable of learning, but his mother read it differently to him.  She stated to him that the letter read that the school was not properly staffed to instruct such a genius and that she would have to teach him at home.  I did research on the story and found it wasn't entirely true, but it did strike me that one of the geniuses of our country was labeled as someone who couldn't learn when he was young. I have included the link below, but once again it's just another story of one person believing in a child and inspiring them to believe in themselves.

Have a great week,

Teddy Bear Picnic Week

Dear Deep Creek Family,

Friday is one of the most anticipated events all year, not only by our current Cubs but past Cubs as well. Each year, I have witnessed the outpouring of love from all of you to make this event special. During this time of year, the synergy that's seen around campus is amazing. The Teddy Bear Picnic really brings us all together to celebrate the wonderful things that happen all year. It is a memory our students won't forget and that is what it is all about.

Get ready to grab your teddy bear and enjoy the day with your students. After the picnic you have a week off to enjoy your families. Try to do things like have a picnic, go for a walk, read a great book, or anything that will help you rest and recharge for our last quarter of this school year. You have all worked so hard and you deserve a break!

I hope each of you is proud of what we have accomplished together. We are an amazing school and together we are rising to the top!

Thanks for all you do,
Adrienne
